– Patrick McNary, Project Manager, Jay-Brant General Contractors, LLC

In association with the Medical Designer, Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz (KMD), RIM Architects planned and designed a 46,500 SF addition and 12,200 SF renovation to the existing 2-story South Peninsula hospital. To provide better medical and emergency care to its community, this expansion project includes the following: new emergency department, expansion and renovation to radiology department, new acute care wing with 18-beds (single patient rooms), new pharmacy, new laboratory, new materials management area, new heli-stop on roof, remodeled surgery – staff, pre-op and post-op areas, remodel of OB/GYN suite, remodeled boiler room, extended site improvements to improve drop-off and traffic circulation.

The new semi-circular patient wing accommodates 18 single patient rooms that have unobstructed views of the Kachemak Bay. With the nurses station centrally located in the patient wing, nurses can easily see and monitor the patient rooms. Electronic charting areas are situated between every two adjacent acute care rooms. Relocation of the pharmacy and lab to the second floor of the hospital brings all patient-related services to the same level, separating patient care from general facility operations.

The hospital is also designed with a shelled area on the ground level to easily accommodate future expansion. RIM Design developed an overall interiors concept, designed the interiors palette, selected all finishes, laid out all the rooms and created wayfinding strategies. Attractive, modern and inviting interiors were developed to enhance wellness and the patient experience. Interior design services provided included all finish treatments, casework design, patient room design, soft goods, lighting design and wayfinding systems and signage.
