The Eklutna Estate Elderly housing project includes a 59 unit building, walking paths, garden plots, a roof garden, plazas and parking that is within a garage, covered and uncovered. The master plan, completed with Peter Briggs of Corvus Design, roots itself deeply in the site, a beautifully wooded valley, and retains the qualities of the valley within which it will be built. Leaving room for one more development, the project is expanding housing needs for Anchorage’s elder population increase.
Working with the Cook Inlet Housing Authority staff, property managers and facility maintenance crews, RIM Architects and RIM First People developed housing that responds to the surveyed needs of potential residents, the mission of the organization and the input of the people managing the build.gin. The apartment complex features spacious accessible units, common areas on each level and tenant storage space. Designed to the specification of University Design, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Fair Housing Act guidelines and Section 504 Uniform Federal Access Standards, the living spaces accommodate seniors with varying abilities with respect and comfort.
