RIM developed the planning, design and documentation for a replacement facility for the existing Eielson Visitor Center, which is located 67 miles inside the Park.  A series of design charrettes revealed that a landscape-driven design alternative is desired for this remote wilderness outpost. In contrast to historic and semi-urban architectural themes promoted at the entrance area development, this facility blends harmoniously with the natural features of the site, rather than projecting any type of formal stylistic architecture.

All disciplines were highly motivated to develop the project as a model of sustainability. The project has been certified by the U.S. Green Building Council for LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) at the Platinum level.
