Tasked with finding a new vision for a state-of-the-art Stanford University dining facility incorporating a focus on health, nutrition, and the athlete, RIM Architects with RIM Design collaborated with key stakeholders – the Residential and Dining Enterprises Director, head chefs, university project managers and the University Provost to bring a new dining experience to life on campus. The result is a design that uses traditional design elements evocative of a relaxing and casual home environment surrounding a central hearth. Warm and artisan finishes and textures paired with historic imagery to introduce a new and memorable local context – California’s rich agricultural heritage.
Stanford proclaimed that this project was beyond their expectations as it created double the revenues anticipated and the students are flocking to the new dining commons.
The facility is the winner of Food Management Magazine’s 2012 Best Concepts Awards for Best of Show and Best New Facility, as well as First Place Award in the 2011 Montague Suite Dreams Design Challenge.
